Saga Prefectural Space and Science Museum

Saga Prefectural Space and Science Museum Based on the theme of "Observing Earth and Saga from outer space, and observing Earth and outer space from Saga”, Saga Prefecture Space & Science Museum is a place where people can have fun with science through participation and experience. Enveloped in the greenery of Takeo Onsen Health Resort Village, the building, which is located by Lake Ikenouchi, was designed to resemble a spaceship awaiting takeoff from a space station. The museum has 5 exhibit sections. These are, the “Discovery of the Universe Zone”, which encourages people’s scientific dreams and fantasies about the Universe, “Discovery of the Earth Zone,” which demonstrates how science is both interesting and mysterious, “Discovery of Saga Zone,” which introduces the diverse ecosystems of Saga, “Toy Box of Science,” where people can experience mysterious phenomenon and “Kids’ Square,” where young kids can become familiar with science through play. A variety of science classes and shows are held to teach people about the Universe, the earth and Saga, as well as the relationship between them. There is a 200-person capacity planetarium on the 3rd floor which features a state-of-the-art projector. The night sky, aglow with countless stars, has been reproduced here in three-dimensional outer space. The dynamic sun, planets and stars can be gazed upon from the observatory. Many hands-on experience programs are available to museum goers. While visitors leisurely enjoy the facility, the programs offered cultivate a curiosity towards science in people of all ages, from children to adults, and show them how wonderful discovery and creation are.
