Kaze no Yakata

Kaze no Yakata

Kaze no Yakata Miyaki town is proceeding with new town development based on a theme of "wind". Kaze-no-Kan is a facility which serves as the core of that town development. Kaze-no-Kan is an octagonal two-story building made from reinforced concrete. The light blue, four meter round, six-blade wind wheel affixed to the top of the building is its symbol.
On the first floor are various forms of entertainment for all ages, including a device which can receive images of the meteorological satellite, Himawari, and a picture-card display projected on a large screen. The second floor is an observation deck and serves the function of a gallery to exhibit pictures, literary works and so on. Miyaki town is famous for the wind fortune telling ritual held at Ayabe Shrine, "Hataage shinji" (flag-raising ritual), said to be the oldest form of weather forecast in Japan. Kaze-no-Kan also exhibits the flag used in this ritual.
